American journalist Robert Roth revealed
details of his interview with Saif al – Islam Muammar Gaddafi, published in The New York Times, asserting that two years ago, he was looking for a way to communicate with Saif Gaddafi.
Roth said via the New York Times’ Daily podcast that someone who had previously worked as a military contractor in United States had helped him reach saif al- islam Gaddafi.
I spent years asking people about saif al islam, about anyone with whom he is still alive, and how do I find him? But it wasn’t that any of them knew. I was then able to contact a former United States military contractor, who knew him and was in contact with him.
He continued that, at first, he had not been sure of the seriousness of the contractor who lived in New Jersey City, so I went to meet him at his home .he said well, do you want to talk to Saif? And I said for sure! And it’s just a while until we’re sitting in this contractor’s kitchen talking to the said al- Islam Gaddafi by WhatsApp.
Roth added that Saif al – Islam Gaddafi invited him “from the beginning to come to Libya after the initial conversation in New Jersey,” .he had two more telephone conversations and exchanged a series of texts, mostly on logistical matters.
He continued by saying: “Everything he said was strange and difficult to explain, but he made it clear that he had great political ambitions, and that made me more willing to interview him.”
Finally he said that, This was not easily achieved because of the conflict and the war in Libya, and it took two and a half years to finally achieve this” .
