German Ship Monitors Arms Embargo in Libya

The German warship “Berlin” heads to the Mediterranean Sea from the Wilhelmshaven naval base on a mission to monitor compliance with the United Nations arms embargo on Libya today (Sunday).

The Berlin Navy is the latest German contribution to Operation Irene after the Hamburg frigate returned to Wilhelmshaven from a similar mission in December 2020.

EU naval vessels in the Mediterranean have the power to board and search vessels suspected of being involved in arms smuggling under the Libya arms embargo.
