Merkel Calls On The Palestinian And Israeli Sides To Cease Fire

German Chancellor Angela Merkel said today (Thursday) that her country works towards a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.

Merkel defended Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas’s rocket fire from the Gaza Strip.

In an interview with WDR Public Television, she added: “We support Israel’s right to defend itself. It is therefore right that Israel takes very strong action. On the other hand, we want to contribute to diplomatic attempts to reach a long-term and sustainable situation in the region.‘’
