Once again, tension has returned to the Libyan oil sector, after Oil Minister Mohamed Aoun’s callings to the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, Abdel Hamid Dbaiba, to refer the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation, Mustafa Sanalla, to the investigation.
Once again, the minister had suspended Sanalla from work and referred him to an investigation last month, but he did not comply with the decision. During the past hours, Aoun sent a new message to Dbaiba. He confirmed that Sanalla had formed and named members of the management committees for the oil companies owned by the Corporation, which is an essential capability of the Corporation’s Board of Directors only.
He explained that this matter made what was issued by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Oil Corporation a flawed decision, with the defect of lack of jurisdiction and usurpation of power. Thus, it was not carried out by a legal position and will cause clear confusion to the company work.
Aoun revealed that the Oil and Gas Ministry was not aware of this decision. It was not referred to it for approval under the legal mechanism drawn up for such a decision. In short, it was another miserable attempt in the context of obstructing the ministry and trying to undermine its duties and responsibilities specified by law.
